Senior Day Program
Kainos Senior Day program facilitates the integration of individuals into the community through full participation in a variety of community-based activities that are determined by individual choice. The program is designed to provide an individual with an intellectual and developmental disability the opportunity to identify and participate in meaningful activities that are based on personal interest, increase opportunities to socialize with others, promote community integration and self sufficiency in their own community.
To achieve this end, Kainos provides a variety of classes and volunteer opportunities while integrated into the community. Through person-centered planning, individuals will choose through opportunities, such as examples below but not limited to, which align with their long-term and short-term goals.
Classes: Allows individuals to learn various topics based on their interest and goals. These skills are taught in a small or large group setting and are integrated into individual’s weekly schedule. Sample Class categories below:
Educational Attainment: Money Management, Reading and Telling Time
Self-Advocacy: Problem solving, conflict resolution and communication skills
Self-Care: Proper hygiene, work attire, safety and socialization
Physical Health: Exercise, Medical Appointments and
Other opportunities include:
Community College Classes: Enrolled in classes of interest on campus or in the community.
Volunteering: Develop the required knowledge base and hands on skills for employment.
Creative Self Expression: Opportunities to engage in specialized skills such as art, film and other mediums.
