Mission Statement

The mission of Kainos programs and services is to provide a wide variety of residential, vocational  and related services, with the highest quality training and support, to adults with developmental disabilities so that each individual may maximize his or her potential and become an active member of the community.

Our History

KAINOS CELEBRATES ITS 40th ANNIVERSARY

It has been 40 years since Dorothy Philbrick realized her dream for her son Jim and broke ground creating
Kainos. Since Kainos opened its doors in 1974, the hope was to offer premiere residential support and training, vocational training and social/recreational opportunities. There were many pioneers who helped Dorothy make this hope become a reality; Diane Smith, Ken & Lorraine Tracey, Ann Baker, Pete and Alice Filios to name a few. Some highlights include:
1974 Kainos is Incorporated, First Board of Directors
1976 Kainos Work Activity Program begins
1977 The Department of Rehabilitation certifies Kainos’ Work Activity Center
1980 First Kainos Residential Home Opens, La Vista
1981 Construction of Kainos’ first Greenhouse
1983 The Triplex Opens
1986 Kainos’ First Achievement Challenge
1987 Kainos Adult Beginnings Opens
1988 Kainos’ Work Activity Center moves to Middlefield Road
1989 Kainos’ First Independent Living Home is leased and opens
1990 First Tom Rathman Celebrity Golf Tournament
1991 First Chili Cook-Off
1994 First Irish Night Fundraiser
1995 Group Site at the Sequoia YMCA begins
1998 Kainos acquires Independent Living House on Jefferson Avenue, Wy’s House
1999 Men move to Belmont House, Kainos’ Second Independent Living Home
2005 Chantal, our Third Supported Living Home opens
2006 Sanchez, our Fourth Supported Living Home opens
2007 Moffett Field Group Site begins
2008 Kainos Clients go to New Orleans to help victims of Hur¬ricane Katrina
2010 Petes Place Senior Care Home Opens
2011 Senior Day Program begins
2013 Wy’s House moves to Redwood Avenue
2013 Kainos Vocational Services moves its operations to Fair Oaks Avenue

Flash forward to 2014. Kainos is thriving and serving over 130 adults with developmental disabilities both residentially and vocationally. One hundred plus volunteers spend time each year making a difference in our clients lives while over 80 staff work tirelessly day in and day out ensuring that our clients flourish and receive the best care and training possible.
